Edinburgh sprawl to conjoin city with Musselburgh
November 5 2010
East Lothian is set to be connected to Edinburgh by continuous sprawl after 420 new homes were approved for the last remaining Greenfield land between them. The Dalrymple family trust wish to flog land for 220 homes on a site near Newcraighall whilst council owned developer EDI has had plans approved for a further 200 homes on land to the north.
Both developers argue that their housing is needed to address a housing shortage in the city but critics fear further suburban expansion will negatively impact upon existing residents through an increase in traffic and loss of green space.
It comes just days after Malcolm Fraser went public with concerns over the continued march of sprawl around the city.

Less likely to be subject to criticism as it's designated for housing in the local plan and the designer's are pals with his nibs.
