Commonwealth Games staff eye Merchant City flit

The organising committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are to move into the Tontine Building, Merchant City, toward the end of next year.It will see the listed building refurbished by City Building LLP, an arms length council run business, with the help of 100 apprentice workers.
When complete the space will be able to accommodate the organisations entire 1,000 strong workforce and will be let commercially to provide a lasting legacy to the city in the Games aftermath.
Councillor Archie Graham, Executive Member for Commonwealth Games delivery at Glasgow City Council, said: “The Tontine Building will be the perfect new home for Glasgow 2014, providing a gateway to the East End and bringing yet more new life to the Merchant City.”
