Hunter & Clark add to growing list of recession casualties
June 21 2010
Elizabeth G Mackay and Fraser J Gray of Zolfo Cooper have been appointed as joint administrators to Hunter & Clark Ltd, one of Scotland’s largest public works and masonry contractors. They will manage the business affairs and properties of the company after all 168 staff of the firm were told they were being made redundant with immediate effect.
In a statement Zolfo Cooper attribute Hunter & Clark’s demise to “severe cash flow difficulties within a tough trading environment”. A period of assessment will now follow as administrators undertake to honour outstanding contracts by offering these to potential bidders.
The Glasgow based firm leave behind numerous unfinished projects including Rosslyn Chapel in Midlothian where repairs have been halted and the Stewart Memorial Fountain in Kelvingrove Park, forcing the council to step in and finish repair work.
The news follows Watson Construction Groups earlier fall into receivership which saw Scottish Natural Stone, Watson Construction Ltd and Watson Stonecraft all cease trading owing to: “economic conditions and a lack of funding.”

What a shame!... H & C gave so much to the masonry trade....a tribute to previous employees.
