Aberdeen’s Duthie Park in line for £6m revamp
April 21 2010
Plans have been unveiled to restore Duthie Park, Aberdeen, to full Victorian vigour. The 44 acre garden attracts more than half a million visitors annually but has become increasingly down at heel due to a lack of investment.
Now Aberdeen City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund are to pump £5.38m into the park on top of a bequest of £834k from local Lorna Russell to wind the clock back on the faded gem.
Work will see reinstatement of a Victorian promenade, restoration of a central fountain and three linked boating ponds and refurbishment of the winter gardens to encourage more visitors and increase its attractiveness for activities and events.
