gm+ad draw up plans for East Kilbride hotel
January 6 2010
East Kilbride is on course to tap into a wave of hotel mania with plans for a 98 bedroom edifice from the G1 Group, designed by gm+ad architects.A function room, bar and restaurant will occupy a plinth space which also includes a basement nightclub, this plinth will engage the street via a collonaded walkway.
Rising to nine storeys in height it is intended to develop as a “destination” within the town centre with hard landscaping and stepped seating will be introduced to define public space and compliment recent public realm works.
Replacing the former Stuart Hotel the building occupies a key location in the fabric of the town centre, anchoring Cornwall Street and neighbouring the civic centre.
The scheme supercedes a previous design from 3Dreid.
