The Show must go on
June 23 2009
A new look arena has been unveiled at the Royal Highland showground, reversing previous plans to switch sites after Edinburgh Airport shelved plans to expand on the site.Loss of anticipated land revenue meant the £350m flit was financially untenable.
Instead a flagship pavilion, hotel, indoor arena and food hall are all planned under the £75m proposals which will assist the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) in attracting more events and increasing value from existing shows.
The showground site will be served by its own tram stop, providing a direct link between Edinburgh Airport and Haymarket Station.
First phase works on the pavilion are anticipated to begin next summer for completion in 2011 and due for full completion in 2014.
